Great American Smokeout 2011

Today, November 17th, the American Cancer Society will hold the 36th annual Great American Smokeout. The event is held annually on the third Thursday of November and encourages smokers from across the country to stop smoking on that day.

Over 46 million Americans continue to smoke even though tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of disease and premature death, although, about half of these people did try to quit for at least one day last year.

Quitting is not an easy task but with the support of ACS we know you can do it. We provide tips on how to quit, as well as help you learn health benefits that you can look forward to upon quitting.

Today at 2 p.m. ET ACS National will be hosting a Great American Smokeout Chat on their Facebook page. Be sure to visit them to learn more tips on quitting and places you can go for help.

Help us continue to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by taking your first step towards quitting today!
